Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to join a youth group?

Our youth groups do not charge membership ques. However, â€‹most events charge a nominal fee for participation. Members of TRS will receive a discount.

How old does my child have to be to participate in youth group activities at TRS?

Lil TRSTY: Grades 3-5

Jr. TRSTY: Grades 6-8

TRSTY: Grades 9-12 (8th graders are invited to participate in the spring)

My child would like to bring a non-TRS member to a TRSTY event. Is that permitted? How do I register them? Is it okay if the friend isn’t Jewish? Yes, you can register any friend, Jewish or non-Jewish, through the online system. All are always welcome.

Where can I find information about upcoming events?

The best place to find information is in your email inbox! In addition, you can find information here on the TRSTY website, in the weekly Teen Schmooze & News email, on Facebook (@TRSTempleYouth), and on Instagram (@TRSTYig).

Does my child need to be registered in Religious School to attend TRSTY events?

While we always encourage TRS youth to attend Religious School, TRSTY is open to all TRS children and friends. They do not need to be registered for Religious School.

Can my child participate in TRSTY if he/she doesn’t speak Hebrew and/or has not had a Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Yes, youth groups are open to everyone.

Do TRSTY activities always involve a religious activity, such as a service or havdalah?

At TRS, we believe that it is important to give our kids lots of fun, social time to enjoy each other, but there is usually some form of teen-organized, teen-led Jewish tradition included. The kids really “own” and enjoy these activities!

How can I be involved with my kids and their friends through TRSTY? What are the best ways for parents to help out?

We’d be delighted to have you join the Youth Committee! We’re a friendly, low-key group that generally meets only once a month during N’tivot on Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:30. Rabbi Amy Schwartzman is our clergy liaison. You can also volunteer to be a chaperone, host an event at your home, or offer to help with setup or cleanup of  events. Feel free to reach out to anyone listed below and we’ll make you feel welcome!

How does TRS help ensure that my child will feel welcomed, included, and encouraged during TRSTY activities?

One of the benefits of having a full-time Director of Youth Engagement is that this person works closely with the kids to assure that everyone feels welcomed and included. It’s their job to get to know and develop relationships with and between the kids, as well as to create an overall positive experience.

What are the chaperone guidelines during TRSTY activities?

There are always adult chaperones on-site during all TRSTY activities. Chaperones must be at least 21-years-old and there is a ratio of 10:1 kids to chaperones.
